The joint was packed to the rafters, the benefit was to replace equipment stolen from The SuperBees, who opened the show with a blistering set of Detroit style garage punk. Check these guys out, they're very cool." Jeff Dahl "...one of the most electrifying pure rock bands in town...a searing set of Saints / Lyres / Sonics-inspired garage shock. Vocalist/guitarist Dave James...a mad riffing hooligan, knocking out killer chords while engaging in high-energy Townshend-like leaps and scowling at the audience..." Jim Freek, New Times LA |
THE SUPERBEES
So, you like your rock n' roll REAL? Look no further than the Los Angeles quartet The SuperBees. For the past few years they have been blowing the minds of L.A. audiences with their high-energy brand of Detroit proto-punk inspired hard rock. Founding member and lead vocalist/guitarist Dave James paid his dues in a number of killer rock n' roll outfits including The Coma-Tones, The Sacred Hearts (also featuring Javier Escavedo of The Zeros) and The Joneses before hooking up with bassist Dat Ngo in Mach 5 Overdrive. It was during this period that the two realized the need to form their own band and take their MC5 influenced sound to the next level - and The SuperBees were born! After gigging around Southern California for a couple years, the Bees released the single "Got this Feeling" b/w "Teenage Animal," and gained a loyal following before completing the line-up with guitarist Scott Carlson (ex-Repulsion, Cathedral and Hushdrops) and drummer Johnny Sleeper (The Stitches and John the Conquerer). Another EP was released in August 2000 to coincide with their groundbreaking appearance at the Las Vegas Shakedown. Since then the boys have been fine tuning their vintage rock sound encompassing influences such as The Stooges, Humble Pie and The Stones as well as more contemporary acts as Thee Hypnotics and The Hellacopters. The SuperBees can be seen electrifying stages up and down the coast with their loud and physical take no prisoners live performances. They have shared the stage with the likes of Guitar Wolf, Wayne Kramer, The Zeros, Weezer, Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, The Hangmen, L7, Deniz Tek, The Hellacopters, Pure Rubbish and The Dragons. |
