Hard to believe it was 8 years ago we started this label. So, why the 8 year retrospective? Why not? We've been charting our own course since we started Acetate in 1999. Many labels have come and gone during our run, and sadly, so have record stores (rest in peace...)
Over the last 8 years we've been fortunate enough to produce some fine sounding records by some amazing bands and had the honor of working with our heroes and guys we grew up lisenting to: Mike Ness, Wayne Kramer, Walter Lure, Arthur Kane, Clem Burke, Greg Ginn, Bob Quine, Richard Lloyd, Scott Asheton, Brian James, Thurston Moore... the list goes on.
Also included on this comp is the last track that Arthur Kane recorded, a cover of the Chuck Berry classic “Carol” with Sonny vincent amd Clem Burke (Blondie) on drums. This was recorded just prior to Arthur finding out about the impossible - a New York Dolls reunion.
Some of these bands you’ll reconize - They’ve “toured the world and elsewhere,” playing rock clubs throughout Europe and the U.S. Sharing stages with bands like Social Distortion, Motorhead, Supersuckers, Rocket From The Crypt, Blondie and tons more. Fans of the Cartoon Network know Nine Pound Hammer’s “12oz. Mouse” theme song, and their recent inclusion in the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie soundtrack, where they perform the soon-to-be-classic “I Don’t Need No Instructions On How To Rock” aka: “Carl’s Theme.”
Others, like The Railsplitters and Coma-Tones, are part of Los Angeles’ musical history, top of their game, but maybe not right for the time, who knows? We all sit in awe as the most benign, middle of the road crap is celebrated ad nauseum... How many fuckin’ Emo bands can there be?!
Sorry, wrong meeting... So where were we? Oh yeah.. We feel privileged to be here releasing music that we love. Enjoy the CD, it’s a nice price and it kicks ass, if we do say so our damn selves.
